Part I: Why I don’t believe eating healthy is the only mantra to stay healthy?

Eat healthy, stay healthy!’

‘Health is wealth’

‘Swasth Raho, mast Raho’

Wooah! That’s a lot of big statements, no? But what is being healthy? I grew up listening to the words of my Mumma and Nani that ‘Beta Ghar ka khana khaya Karo, bazaar ke khane mein takat nahi hoti’ (Eat home-made foods they are more nutritious than the foods cooked at hotels and restaurants). I have always been an obedient child and followed whatever they said then. I believed that eating healthy is the only option by which a human can stay healthy (to prove the statement ‘eat healthy, stay healthy’ right).

I belong to the land of beauty and nature, Shillong, Meghalaya. Something is fascinating and mesmerizing about this place. Everything looks like a treat to eyes, serene and sophisticated. No wonder how the beauty of nature can excite someone so much to never leave the place. The mountains, the rivers, the landscapes, Shillong has got everything that nature can offer.

I have never seen any place in India so clean and filled with colours. The pink flowers on the trees, the green leaves, the shiny brown trunks and the dew drops on the grass, everything is just soothing and refreshing. The roads are black and clean, the terrace farming looks so fine and aligned. During winters, the mountains are covered with snow and look like a water flow. You can find men appreciating the beauty of their women and the women being a supportive hand to their men. The people here are generous and kind. The lovely gesture they provide to the tourists is just commendable. By now, you must be thinking that I started with a question what is healthy? So, let me tell you that being healthy has never been about eating healthy.

If not eating healthy then what?

Ok, now for the next few minutes I want you to see the world through my lens. I mean it, like really, because then only you can understand the word ‘healthy’ from my perspective. I believe that being healthy incorporates everything around us. The environment we live in, the food, of course, the way we live and the people we sit with.

To stay healthy we need all these factors to be affirmative, supportive and constructive. Food is the second option but changing our thought process can bring some world-shattering changes. The way we approach things helps us in staying healthy, the people we roam around with helping us in staying healthy.

Eating healthy has never been a prime factor for staying healthy but whatever happens around has. I am a homesick person, not because I love my home but I enjoy the company of people around me. I like to travel and explore new things, want to do adventurous things but nothing compares the quality of life I enjoy being in Shillong.

There is so much I want to share with the world about what healthy quotient means through my eyes. But as I can sense that too much visualization might be making you a little bored so I will continue with the same topic in my upcoming blog. Make sure that you are following my blog as there is so much I have to share with you.
